About the Author…

In the 1970s, when wrestling was followed by millions of fans every week, a mysterious, masked wrestler was to debut on British television screens and quickly become an icon. The anonymous man was a silent Japanese warrior, a physical powerhouse, and a fighter whom no-one could defeat.

His name was Kendo Nagasaki.

Little did his fans know, the man behind the mask was not from Japan – he was from closer to home – and his journey to superstardom was the hard-won result of self-belief, application, and overcoming adversity.

His story begins in 1941 as an adopted war-baby from the West Midlands. Following years of struggle and loneliness at school, hampered by undiagnosed dyslexia, he seemed destined for a bleak life of physical labour. But an unexpected path emerged; a path born from dedication to Judo and Zen and training at the world’s toughest Catch Wrestling school. From here, the great Kendo Nagasaki would ultimately emerge, and ascend to the absolute pinnacle of British professional wrestling.

Now, for the very first time, the complete story of the secretive warrior and the man behind his mask – Peter Thornley – is revealed, in his own words.

This honest and absorbing autobiography follows Peter’s life before, during, and after his career in the ring. It lifts the lid on his personal life, the world of wrestling behind the cameras, his success with different businesses, and his current endeavours with the Lee Rigby Foundation. Indeed, all the proceeds from this book will go to the work of the Lee Rigby KNFoundation here at Moor Court.

Kendo Nagasaki and The Man Behind The Mask offers a fascinating, revealing, no-holds-barred account of Peter Thornley’s extraordinary life – it’s a must-read!.
